The Philippine Presidential Security Force (PSG) on 9 March announced it would implement a ban on touching President Rodrigo Duterte to prevent COVID-19.
PSG commander Jesus Durante on March 9 announced the ban on touching President Duterte (75 years old). At the same time, this is one of the measures to ensure safety for leaders and families in the context of the increase in COVID-19 infections in the country, according to Rappler.

Mr. Durante said those expected to get close to President Duterte during events and meetings would have to undergo a medical examination first to see if there were signs of COVID-19.
Attendance events that President Duterte plans to attend as guests of honor or chair will be canceled for mutual safety.
PSG commander said that this is a preventive action as recommended by the Ministry of Health and calls for sympathy and cooperation.
On March 9, the Philippine Ministry of Health announced an additional 10 people infected with the new strain of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 20 with one death.
