China's RX4E can fly 186 miles (about 300 km) on a single charge.
China carried out the first test flight of a 4-seat electric aircraft. It will probably become the best aircraft to serve short flights, according to Chinese media reports.
RX4E landed after the first flight in Shenyang, the capital of northeast China's Liaoning province, on October 28, 2019.
The Chinese-made RX4E, weighs 1,200 kg and can fly 300 km on a single charge. During the test flight, the electric plane successfully made the flight from the northeastern city of Shenyang, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The RX4E is made primarily of carbon material so it significantly reduces the weight of this aircraft. That means the plane can fly farther.
Considering commercial viability, this electric plane would be a very attractive product because it has less noise and emissions.
In addition, Uber Technologies plans to start electric flight taxi service in Melbourne by 2023. The company is also testing services in Dallas and Los Angeles.
The aircraft is powered by 70kWh battery. The report says if the battery is getting better, the flight could take longer. About 77% of electric aircraft materials are made of lightweight carbon materials and are corrosion resistant. Electric planes can be used for short flights, pilot training or travel flights.
