According to the CDC, the HPV virus is responsible for an average of 34,800 cancer cases per year and 32,100 cases of HPV can be avoided each year if the vaccination is complete.

On August 22, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that about 92% of all cancers caused by HPV can be prevented with vaccination. At the same time, it is emphasized that increasing the vaccination rate is an important priority....

CDC urges governments and citizens to take urgent action to raise immunization rates. Accordingly, the agency aims to increase the HPV vaccination rate to 80%. The CDC recommends that children get the HPV vaccine at age 11 or 12 to avoid getting the virus infection.

However, new data show that the immunization rate among young people aged 13-17 years is increasing slowly. Only 51% of adolescents were fully vaccinated, an increase of 2% compared to 2017.

The CDC report also states that although the HPV vaccine is usually not recommended for people age 26 and older. However, it may be useful for some people aged 27-45 who have never been vaccinated if they are at risk of HPV infection.

In addition to the HPV vaccine, the US health department also recommends that women aged 21-29 years should get a Pap test (cervical smear) along with an HPV test every 3 years.

The HPV virus is sexually transmitted and can lead to cancer in both men and women. Including cervical, anal, and throat cancers.

In February, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a report showing that in 2018 the world recorded 570,000 cases of cervical cancer. Accordingly this cancer is in the group of the four most common cancers in women after breast cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer.

Each year, cervical cancer kills more than 300,000 women, mostly in low-income countries.
