PhilSA is the main body responsible for addressing all of the nation's problems and activities on space science and technology applications.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte recently signed the Philippine Space Law (RA11363), which established the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).
According to a correspondent in Southeast Asia, President Duterte emphasized: The Philippines needs to establish a unified and consistent strategy for space exploitation, use and development. Aim to catch up with other countries in the field of space science and technology.

The Act states that the PhilSA is the body primarily responsible for addressing all national problems and activities regarding spatial science and technology applications.
PhilSA is also the agency with the function to manage, execute, coordinate, plan and develop key policies. Aims to develop and promote a national space program in accordance with the Philippine Space Policy.
The Philippine Space Law also introduces the Philippine Space Use and Development Policy (also known as the Philippine Space Policy). They see it as the main strategic roadmap to support, strengthen and make the Philippines a space-capable nation within the next decade.
Under the new law, priority areas include: applications of space science and technology (SSTAs) with the aim of solving national problems, promoting the exploitation and effective use of space. results of spatial assets and resources, establishing capacity building measures for human resource development, strengthening national defenses and promoting international cooperation.
The Philippine Space Law will also focus on six key areas: National Development and Security, Climate Research and Risk Management, Spatial Research and Development, Space Industry Capacity Building , Education and spatial awareness and international cooperation.
In addition, the Philippine Space Law also stipulates the establishment of the Philippine Space Council (PSC) chaired by the President. It serves as the main advisory body for the coordination and integration of policies, programs and resources that affect the application of science and technology.
