According to Brand Finance, Samsung Electronics Co. is still the most valuable brand in Korea despite the decline.
The global brand valuation organization's report shows that Samsung Electronics, the world's No. 1 manufacturer of memory chips and smartphones, tops the list of the top 50 brands of Asia's fourth largest economy, with a valuation of 83.2 trillion won (68.6 billion USD) this year.
However, Samsung's brand value represents a 6.3% decline from a record high of 88.8 trillion won last year, with the brand ranking dropping from "AAA +" to "AAA." "
Samsung Group's brand value, Samsung Electronics' parent company, is valued at 106,000 billion won, ranking fifth among the most valuable brands in the world after Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft.
South Korea's leading automaker Hyundai Motor Co is behind Samsung, with a brand value of 10.3 trillion won, down 9.1% from a year ago. Third place is LG Electronics Inc. with 9.6 trillion won, up 20.7% from a year ago.
Thanks to record earnings last year, semiconductor chip maker SK Hynix Inc. ranked fourth with a rating of 9.5 trillion won, an increase of 61.6% over the previous year. SK Hynix is the 10th most valuable brand last year.
Korea's leading mobile operator, SK Telecom Co. ranked fifth with 7.7 trillion won, down 0.9% from a year ago.
