Alcohol, beer, salted fish, pickled melon ... contains nitrosamine which causes some types of cancer including throat cancer. Please refer to the causes of throat cancer below.
Nasopharyngeal cancer ranks first in head and neck cancer and the fifth in general cancers. The disease has a good prognosis if detected early, treated properly and promptly. The disease can be found in all ages but most at age 40-60. People in southern China, countries in Southeast Asia are at high risk.
According to Professor Mai Trong Khoa, former deputy director of Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi), the cause of throat cancer has not been clearly defined. However, there are many assumptions.

Symptoms of throat cancer are often vague. (Photo: Carewhiz).
The first is virus. Many studies show that the disease is related to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). This anti-virus antibody test is high in some throat cancers of differentiated epithelial type.
The second is the genetic factor. Many cases of throat cancer are found in the same family.
The third is the environment. Chinese immigrants to the United States are less likely to have throat cancer than in the country. Therefore, people think of the role of the environment affecting disease. Injury to T lymphocyte function accompanied by chronic EBV infection are two identified high-risk factors.
The fourth is food and processing. Food processing through many stages of fermentation such as wine, beer, salted fish, pickled melon, fish sauce containing many nitrosamines is related to some types of cancer including throat cancer.
Fifth is age and gender. The disease can occur at any age, but the most common is the period 40-60. The disease occurs in both sexes but in men more.
Therefore, to prevent disease, Professor Khoa advised to limit the consumption of fermented foods, proper nutrition, eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. Patients need ENT examination when the symptoms of nasal congestion, tinnitus, floating lymph nodes on one side gradually increase to be detected early. Especially in families with parents and siblings with throat cancer need regular health checkups.
Nasopharyngeal cancer or nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is the most common type of cancer in the nasopharynx, mostly in the back of the nasopharynx or the lobe of the nasopharynx or "alveoli", accounting for 50%. NPC occurs in children and adults.
NPC differs from other head and neck cancers when there is an appearance, cause, behavior and treatment. It is more widespread in parts of East Asia and Africa than anywhere else, with genetic, dietary and genetic factors related to its cause and effect. It is most common in men. It is a squamous cell carcinoma or a differentiated type. Squamous epithelial cells are a type of flat cell found in the skin and membranes that form deep body holes.
The difference means how different the cancer cells are from normal cells. Cells regardless of whether the cells do not have their mature features or functions.
