If not making disastrous mistakes, Fox's X-Men series probably didn't end in such regret.
After 20 years, Fox's X-Men universe also came to an end with Dark Phoenix. However, this ending is too disappointing compared to Marvel's Endgame. Despite the age of the X-Men, it is double that of the MCU (Marvel Cinema Universe). This consequence is probably due to Fox making many mistakes in developing a mental child.
1. Time line troublesome

One of the reasons for MCU to become familiar with the audience is the homogeneous and easy-to-follow timeline. Although there are many parts of the money and the sequel mix. But fans still easily know which events take place before and after. Or understand the timeline of each work. But the X-Men is not. Fox's film universe has two cast members who play the same role and often use timelines that are unrelated to each other.

This makes the flashback scenes difficult to grasp. When no one knows when Professor X of James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart are. Even if X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) makes things more confusing. Their only thing in common is Wolverine by Hugh Jackman.
2. Correction by re-launching the brand

After the first two excellent parts, X-Men suddenly broke out with X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). Dark Phoenix Saga and the image of many celebrities are in a hurry. But instead of finding ways to correct it, Fox hired Matthew Vaughn to make the prequel with X-Men: First Class (2011). In fact, the piece is partially re-launching the brand with cast and completely different colors.

The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) are still missing the audience. Then they had to try to receive a story with new faces. In fact, the revenue of First Class is not high compared to the cost. Although the film is rated as well, plus the trio's impressive performances of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence.
3. Hug too many things

Factors that make up the best episodes of brands like: X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003) or Days of Future Past.
That is focusing on a single content. Meanwhile, X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), The Last Stand and Dark Phoenix, recently "drowned" in too many side stories. For example, Dark Phoenix, the film should only focus on the change of Jean Gray (Sophie Turner) and the fight with the X-Men.

However, director Simon Kinberg adds Vuk (Jessica Chastain) and the D'Bari race unnecessarily. Consequently, their role is not clear. Just as the latter half of the story suddenly becomes unreasonable and rambles with countless situations that are solved too superficially. How can the audience focus on the film if the crew does not know what it is they want to convey?
4. The forgotten villains

Many fans who criticize the villains of MCU are bland. But I forgot that the X-Men also "eight-and-a-half people". They have a lot of villains like Ian McKellen's Magneto, Sabretooth of Liev Schreiber. But also create countless unforgettable characters. Michael Fassbender's Magneto really has that depth but always changes his mind because of Charles Xavier's few sentences. Do you remember the villains of The Wolverine (2013)? Fox destroyed Dark Phoenix not only one but twice. Simultaneously turn the famous comic Apocalypse into one of the most unforgettable characters in the big screen.

5. Lack of quality movies

Perhaps, Marvel must thank Fox very much for the success of MCU, which is largely drawn from Fox's failure. Actually, at first, the Avengers were much less popular than X-Men. Heroes like: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, ... can hardly make a sound if they stand alone.
However, Marvel still released each character's own film before leading to The Avengers (2012). The general parts of the film have since been released a few years apart so that the audience has what to expect.

Meanwhile, Fox brought all the X-Men into one work from the beginning. This made each character not have enough land to shine and the series quickly became "Wolverine and friends". After The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has just debuted but is no longer the right time. Good characters like Deadpool or Gambit are destroyed or appear only a few minutes. The last two parts of Deadpool are the right direction for Fox but it's all too late.
