Despite being famous all over the world with the Superman brand, but the Indonesian high court still tried DC Comics to lose the case in this copyright lawsuit.
For many Western comic fans, especially DC Comics, the name Superman is really familiar to everyone. The image of a superhero with a red robe is so familiar to many fans around the world. However, not anywhere, Superman is still the number 1 hero in the world. Evidence is that recently, DC Comics' Superman had unexpectedly lost the case in a trademark copyright to a confectionery company called PT Marxing Fam Makmur based in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Reportedly, PT Marxing Fam registered intellectual property rights and protected Superman brand for confectionery products they manufactured with law enforcement agencies in Indonesia since 1993. And the company also has a patent. Testimonials show that they regularly update their ownership with "Superman". Disputes only occur when DC Comics began appearing in Indonesia last year and and met the legal barriers to the brand name mentioned above.
Soon after, DC Comics and their lawyers tried to argue that the Superman brand was famous all over the world and even in Indonesia so it was unlawful for Marxing to register for use. However, quite ironically for DC, the country's law enforcement agency has dismissed DC Comics' lawsuit and protected the interests of Marxing confectionery.

Superman is just the name of a cake in Indonesia
It is known that this is not the first time a famous company in the world lost intellectual property rights against businesses in Indonesia and especially Surabaya Island, previously the furniture company IKEA also received similar failure. in 2016 with a company of the same name here. And this time, the next victim of the legislature of the island nation continues to be DC Comics.
Currently, DC Comics as well as their legal representatives in Indonesia have not released any comment after this Supreme Court's ruling.
